X-O Manowar #1
Damn, Valiant has really stepped up their game. I actually read this issue a month ago in Memphis when I was attending the Comics Pro meeting. I got to hang out with the Valiant guys at their suite (those dudes like to party) and was able to read an early copy of X-O. And I was blown away by how good this book is (on a side note I had a couple of their famous “Bloodshots” and they were delicious). This book has the adventure feel of John Carter of Mars mixed with epic battles of Conan the Barbarian. For those of you who aren’t familiar with X-O all you need to know is that he was an ancient warrior from Earth who got his hands on some powerful alien weaponry and now he’s a total bad ass. He does some awesome stuff in this issue, and he doesn’t even put on the suit yet! Awesome book, seriously everybody needs to check out Valiant, they’re doing awesome stuff.

Iron Fist is a great character that deserves his own ongoing series, and I’m happy that he has one once again. Danny finds himself unable to conjure up the Iron Fist anymore, so he travels around the world picking fights, hoping that through these battles, he can reconnect with his chi to bring it back. The artwork in this issue portrays a gritty, realistic atmosphere that compliments the writer’s story arc setup. I love it when Danny Rand performs martial arts and you can see the name of each move he executes in big red column blocks. It makes you feel like you’re playing Marvel vs Capcom, with the way each character in the game calls out their signature move as they perform them. I’m looking forward to seeing how this series moves along.
